Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched just before 4pm today December 11, 2024, to 212 3rd St SW, for a house with smoke coming out one window. On arrival crews determined that there was a fire burning inside the home. During the initial size-up of the home, the tenant showed up and stated that no one was inside the house except for their cat. Crews made entry through the rear entry door and were met with heat and smoke. Crews were able to find the seat of the fire and quickly extinguished it. Crews also located the tenants cat, unfortunately the cat was already deceased. After ventilating the structure, crews spent the next hour and a half checking for fire extension and conducting salvage and overhaul. The fire is currently under investigation.
