[ARCHIVED] Watertown Fire Responds to Insecticide Spill

South Fork

At approximately 9:30pm Tuesday evening Watertown Fire Rescue was called to an accident scene where a sprayer tank was reportedly laying on South Highway 81, near 20th Ave SE, just north of the roundabout.  Upon arrival, a tubular sked was found on the roadside with an approximate 200 gallon poly tank and a small engine pump attached to it, as well as a hose reel.  The tank had been damaged to the point of losing it's contents, with a spill having occurred on the roadway.  At the time of the incident it was believed the tank contained about 55-60 gallons of water mixed with insecticide.  About 10 gallons of product remained in the tank.  It is not clear how the tank was lost from the vehicle it originated in.  An estimated 50 gallons of product including water was released on the roadway.  WFR crews cleaned up what they could of the remaining product, and the damaged tank was loaded by a local tow company on a flatbed tow truck.  There is no danger to anyone in the vicinity of the spill.  WFR was assisted by the Watertown Police Department on scene.  Crews were on scene for about an hour, and there were no injuries reported.
