Just before 9am on Sunday June 23rd, 2024 Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the area of 9th Ave and 14th St. SE for a smoking transformer. On scene crews found a large transformer switch station with white smoke coming from it. Due to the high voltage running into the box, WFR crews waited for Municipal Utilities to arrive and open the box. WFR provided standby while MU crews opened the utility box, once opened there was no further fire or arcing found. Municipal Utilities crews worked to restore power to its customers. A large portion of South East Watertown was affected by the outage.
