[ARCHIVED] Watertown Fire Rescue Responds to Field Fire

Brush 3

On Sunday April 21st at approximately 5:00pm, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a controlled burn that escaped it's boundaries.  The incident took place near the intersection of 167th street and 455th avenue. Three Brush Trucks and a Water Tender responded to the incident north of Watertown resulting from the property owner burning a brush and tree pile that escaped it's boundaries and caught the corn stubble field and grass on fire. When crews arrived on scene, they were met with a 100ft by 50ft fire that was encroaching on shelter belts on two sides. The firefighters worked diligently to gain control of the fire before it was able to take hold in the shelterbelts or make a run across the corn stubble field. WFR remained on scene for about thirty-five minutes before handing the property back over to the landowner. Watertown Fire Rescue would like to remind landowners to maintain a high level of situational awareness when performing a controlled burn.
