Administrative Division

The Administrative Division is responsible for many administrative details of the Watertown Police Department. The Administrative Division is tasked with ensuring that a high standard of professionalism and excellence in law enforcement continues to exist within the Watertown Police Department. The Administrative Division is responsible for developing and reviewing policy, and examining procedures throughout the department for efficiency and policy compliance. The Captain of Administrative Division reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Police.

Intern Program and Job Shadows: Receives and processes applications of students pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university. The Captain of Administrative Division coordinates the schedule of interns and job shadows.

Monthly & Annual Reports:

Manages, coordinates, and prepares the department’s monthly and annual reports with the assistance of command and supervisory personnel.

Training/PTO: Manage, plan coordinate, and schedule training for various organizational components of the Watertown Police Department and assist with the Police Training Officer Program. The Captain of Administrative Division serves as the department’s liaison with South Dakota Law Enforcement Training and other professional organizations.

Background Investigations:

Manages, coordinates and conducts applicable background investigations on all Watertown Police Department employees and volunteers.

Research and Grants:

Researches grant opportunities and writes grant applications for the department. Additional duties include assisting other personnel with the administration of grant awards and reporting requirements.

Policies and Procedures:

Manages, coordinates, reviews, and revises the policies and procedures of the Watertown Police Department with the assistance of the Policy Committee and Command Staff.

Animal Control - Our Animal Control staff consists of one full-time employee who responds to animal related calls for service.  This person also handles some parking and code violations.
