2015 DASH Fun Run
2015 FUN RUN
It’s hard to believe, but 5 years ago this month, the Watertown DASH initiative was implemented at the Watertown Police Department.  It’s been a great 5 years and this initiative has made a difference in the lives of local youth and their families and we look forward to another great year in 2017.

Watertown DASH is an acronym for Drug Free, Alcohol Free, Safe & Healthy  and the mission is  “To challenge community partnerships to lead by example and to empower Watertown youth to choose to live healthy and positive lifestyles”.  Kids learn by the examples and expectations set for them by family and society.  It seems that on a national level a social norm has developed that “kids will be kids” when it comes to alcohol and even marijuana use as if it is a “rite of passage”.  As a community, we need to focus on changing that social norm and look at what we can do to protect the health and safety of our youth.  The Watertown Police Department, along with community partners like the Watertown Healthy Youth Coalition, would like to stop this trend.  We are reaching out to local businesses and community members to join this initiative and help us raise the bar for youth and empower them to make safe and healthy choices.

We have had some great supporters of Watertown DASH the last 5 years and we wouldn’t have been able to keep it going without their support.  If you have been a supporter of Watertown DASH in the past, thank you for your generosity and for caring about the local youth of Watertown.  In 2017, we will continue to provide safe and healthy activities for the kids and to continue to promote family oriented events.  Being present in children’s lives plays a huge factor in their lives.  If you haven't had a chance to look at the Watertown DASH Facebook page, we strongly suggest that you do and just look at the photos from our events.  To see the smiles and accomplished looks on the children's faces is enough to prove that we are doing a good thing.  Our child participant numbers continue to grow each year too.  We would love your support for 2017.

Our 2017 activities/events that we will host or sponsor consist of:  6th Annual Fun Run-open to ages 5-12 for an evening of running races, fitness stations and “just for fun” stations;  Recreational Trail Challenge- to promote our local recreational trails along with health and fitness;  DARE-classes are taught to 5th graders at all of the elementary schools in Watertown;  $500 Scholarship-presented to a graduating Senior from the Watertown High School;  Teen Police Academy-designed for youth ages 13-18;  DASH to Kampeska Freedom Run-a family oriented 5K race to promote health and fitness;  F.O.P. Kids Triathlon-open to ages 7-12 for a morning of bike riding, swimming and running;  Turkey Day 5K/2 Mile Walk-a long time tradition and a huge family oriented event in Watertown to promote health and fitness; and we are always looking for new and fun events to add throughout the year.

No greater good can be done than helping a child live safe and healthy lives.  Watertown DASH is 100% funded by community partners.  Your financial support will help countless children in our community.  Please help us continue Watertown DASH by providing financial support, donations of food or beverages for our events or volunteering to help at our events.  Your business or organization will be recognized for your support.
