WFR Responds to Multiple Calls During Morning Thunderstorm

WFR received multiple calls for service after a strong thunderstorm moved through the area.

At around 0530 on 6/11/2017 WFR responded to Benet Place Assisted Living for a fire alarm activation, due to a power failure in the area. Also at the same time WFR was called to a fire alarm activation at Stone Bridge apartments. On arrival firefighters determined that the alarm was due to the inclement weather and nothing was found.

WFR also responded to multiple power lines down in the area of 8th Ave and 9th St SE. On arrival firefighters found multiple power poles that had been snapped over and power lines were on the ground. Again firefighters found power lines down at 5th Ave and 12th St SE. WFR along with WPD remained on scene until Watertown Municipal Utilities could de-energize the downed lines. There are also multiple reports of downed trees throughout Watertown.

WFR would like to remind citizens to stay well away from downed power lines as they can carry electricity through the ground around the area of the downed lines.
