Watertown PD Traffic Safety Team Announces Texting And Driving Mobilization

Stop Texting
The Watertown Police Department is partnering with area law enforcement agencies to bring increased awareness to the dangers of distracted driving.

The WPD is currently running campaigns to educate the public of the dangers and consequences of texting and driving.

On average, each sent or received text message takes a driver’s eyes off the road for five seconds. In those five seconds, when driving 25 mph, your vehicle travels 183 feet.  Drivers could miss a traffic light turning red, a child crossing the road, or drift into oncoming traffic.

During the month of May and beyond, law enforcement will be conducting increased patrols for texting and driving violations.

Texting and driving is punishable by a $200 fine.
